Artsitecture Design - Who Are We? We are a family-owned live edge slab furniture designer and builder in Decatur, Indiana. Real people, real hardwood, decades of experience, perfectionists through and through.

We only sell via waiting list. If you're not on the list, you won't get a table. No need for advertising or Etsy. The live edge market is filled with imports from China, Turkey, India, and more. If you leave, ensure you're buying from a true craftsman, not a reseller.

Want to join our waiting list for handcrafted beauty? Fill out the form below. When we find a unique slab and create a design, we'll share the plan with our list. Only those on the list can choose to pre-purchase.

No junk mail—we're just two builders, one (expensive) artist, and a very unruly shop dog.

Here is the evolution of a Artsitecturedesign.com live edge piece of art.  Scroll and watch it come together

The semi shows up with the new slab.  We unload it and place it outside to check it  closely for problems.

The next step is to delve deep within the wood and assess the situation. Gather your tools, a headlamp, and a loop to illuminate the area. Begin taking notes and creating plans.

Upon receiving the new slab, we transport it to a temperature-controlled environment for meticulous examination. We commence with several layers of light sanding to reveal the underlying wood grain. Subsequently, we dedicate approximately 10 hours to intricate woodworking details, employing a dental pick to meticulously remove imperfections and closely studying the grain pattern. This process is highly laborious and demands a keen eye for detail.

After playing dentist we blow it out in the most precise way possible.   We literally use a compressor and a needle as you can see here.

The wood is now thoroughly clean, and after approximately two weeks of dedicated effort, we are delighted with the outcome. Fortunately, we derive immense joy from this activity, which has become an integral part of our family routine. Woodworking is one of our most enjoyable collective endeavors. While it involves occasional humorous moments, mistakes, and lessons learned, we approach it with daily enthusiasm.

The subsequent phase involves the resin application process. This process entails a substantial amount of labor, and a cornerstone of our expertise lies in crafting a table that transcends mere resin and plastic coverage. Our tables possess a genuine wood appearance and tactile experience, with the resin poured in with exceptional precision.

The resin is poured into the table, and it is allowed to dry. The next step involves removing the tape, guards, and seals used during the build. The table is then transported to the shop for next step preparation, including sanding, leveling, further dental picking, blowing, sanding again, microscopic examination, and the removal of imperfections.  Amazing things are found inside slabs that are hundreds of years old.  No gold yet but we are hopin...

Below, at the bottom of this page, you will see a unique feature of our process. The application of our brand by our artist, Rhea, using a woodburning kit on the underside of each table. This ensures that each table bears the distinctive Artsitecture Design logo, providing customers with unmistakable proof of authenticity.  WE ARE NOT mass produced foreign built tables.  These are 100 percent American built legacy tables.  They deserve a signature and we are proud of each and every one.

This is undoubtedly the most challenging aspect: applying the first coat of polyurethane. It accentuates every detail, both positive and negative, resulting in a striking visual impact. Not surprisingly, this table transformed exceptionally well.

The next steps involve applying several additional coats of polyurethane. Once complete we sand at 600+ grit (depending on wood characteristics) reapply poly and repeat three to six times.  When it's perfect we fill the table exposing the final table top and get to work on the topside

We are going to show you the process for the same table until complete to give you a true no BS idea of how we operate.  This table is in progress and is currently drying as of mid March.

We will be adding the base and legs in the second half of the process, so stay tuned! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to see a different part of the process.

After Marshals nap and a couple weeks later we finished the sanding on the top side and filled pin holes.

At this point we do another flatness test with a bag of marbles.  No school like old school.  Then we use the laser level, lol.  Finally after 7 coats of poly and 7 rounds of polishing we move this BMF inside to mount it to the base.

“I am beyond impressed with the quality and craftsmanship of the furniture I purchased from Artsitecture Design. Each piece is a work of art.”

*not some b.s. fake customer nonsense. We only show actual available tables and a request for past sales can be made through the contact page.  Beware out there when buying a live edge table.  People are full of shit and there are hundreds of sellers from overseas that sell for comparable prices and you will get a table we would never allow to leave our shop.  We will finish about 12 this year for the public.  Get on the list asap and we will send you pics of our new rough slabs and upcoming finished tables.
